Clobber Colby

Posted on: April 17, 2008 Post a comment Curious Diversions

Fivestone, the graphic design company that did a lot of design work for us at The Well last summer has created a fun online distraction! Apparently, Steve Colby of Pogo Pictures is a little difficult to work with. So difficult that Steve thought it would be best if his clients could beat him up, virtually. Pogo asked FiveStone to create this online game, “Clobber Colby.”

Have fun beating up Steve!

Worship Journal for 3/26/08

Posted on: March 31, 2008 Post a comment Authenticity, Worship Journal

I need to try to get these things out a little earlier :) ! I jotted down some thoughts after the service, some things I felt particularly reminded of this night . . .

Worship was refreshing tonight; it was good to be reminded of God’s presence in my life, to thank Him for that and ask for greater dependency on Him. Honestly, life can be tiring, even to the wearing down of my faith–not the belief that God is, but more so the belief that He is involved in every detail of my life. I can so easily let that slip from my heart and mind in the mundane moments of each day. I need to come back to the reality that God is an all-powerful, magnificent God and in that He has chosen to implant His redemptive life into my being. He is my hope and His life in me sustains me. I’m thankful for the times God pulls me away from a focus on problems, difficulties and challenges of life to a gaze on His complete and surpassing sufficiency in this life. He will see me through. He will take care of me. He is my treasure. He is glorious. He is my portion. He is God.

Here’s the set list:

O For A Thousand Tongues // Crowder
You Are God // Charlie Hall
Beautiful Jesus // Kristian Stanfill
Highest and Greatest // Tim Hughes
Glorious One // Fee

and to close . . .
Fearfully and Wonderfully Made // Redman
Til I See You // Hillsong United

My “Village” Gift

Posted on: March 26, 2008 One comment Family, Mac!

Yesterday was my 29th birthday. I love birthdays! My sweet wife orchestrated one of the best gifts ever for me. Let me preface that by saying she is a naturally phenomonal gift-giver anyway. This year she got pretty creative. She knew I wanted an iphone. I knew it was way too expensive. So did she. So she got some of my family to pull together and enable what I’ve come to call my “village” gift. You know the saying “It takes a village . . .”; this is what I found in my lone birthday package from Shell:

Thank you Shell, Mom, Steph, Haley, Olivia, Courtney, Robert and CMDS!! I assure you I will love my new piece of hyped up technology!

I am so thankful for the love of a Savior that brutally gave His life so I would live. May His rescue of us change and fuel our lives. Have a Good Friday!

This week was the second in a three-part series called Simple at The Well. We have started using a click track again in the band, which helps to tighten up our playing a good bit. It also reminds you of how imperfect one’s rhythm can be at times ; )

I had a quite humorous moment at the beginning of our last song in which I forgot to remove my capo–kind of important. So I started into the song a full step higher than the rest of the band, and laughed out loud as the song train wrecked! So we stopped, I explained my pivotal mistake to everyone in the room and we started over! I’m thankful for those “real” moments that always provide a good laugh for everyone and a good dose of humble pie, too : )

Here’s the set from last night:

All Because of Jesus // Steve Fee
Inside Out // Hillsong United
Hosanna/For All Who Are To Come // Hillsong United

Amazing Grace // Tomlin

and to close . . .
Grace Will Be My Song // Steve Fee
Beautiful Jesus // Kristian Stanfill
Mighty To Save // Hillsong United
O For a Thousand Tongues // Crowder

A good, simple night~

Unleash 08

So I woke up at 4:36am today and left town at 5:23am and now I’m at Unleash, a one-day conference put on by Newspring Church in Anderson, SC. Really, it’s a great conference– great encouragement, insight and filling up on solid truth and time with the Lord, as well as great nuts and bolts insights on how to make things work accross the whole spectrum: knowing God’s heart, doing ministry from that place, how to use technology, and great planning and organizational tidbits. Here are a few things I’ve picked up:

*When you’ve got it all figured out, God says, “You don’t need me anymore, I’ll go somewhere they don’t have it all figured out.”
*You’ll only know what God wants to do if you spend passionate, uninterrupted time with the Father
    *You need revelation, not inspiration
*You’ve got to do and be who and what God called you to do and be
*We can’t allow our personal preferences to get in the way of how God wants to use the church to reach the lost
    *Excellence=not clouding who Jesus is
*Go to as many rock concerts as you possibly can

Now I’m home and it’s 1:05am . . . zzzzzzzzzz

NOLA Wrap Up

So the New Orleans trip was a pretty great one! We had a team of 37 that went down last week, and I have to say it was an incredible group. We had phenomenal community together throughout the week, serving together, worshipping together, sharing together and just having fun hanging out and getting to know each other better. (There is a prolific amount of videos and pics on Facebook, but be warned! Ha!) We worked hard, but we played hard, and we saw the hope of Christ flourish among our group and extend to the homes in which we served. My team served the Dusset’s, a couple with an incredible perspective of hope and faith on the last three years of displacement, destruction and bleak circumstances. They are still living in a FEMA trailer. They were a huge encouragement to our team. They are an older couple, and they read the Bible every morning and every night together. I seriously do not know if I would handle their circumstances with as much joy, trust and peace as they are–what a challenge and example. We (attempted!) to help them get a lot of re-building done on the inside of their house! There’s a lot more I could write about the trip, but suffice it to say, we’ve all returned with a lot of new friends, and a wealth of formational community times together. This is one of the best short-term mission/service teams I’ve gotten to be a part of!

The Big Easy

Posted on: March 1, 2008 Post a comment The Well, Travel

So I’m leaving tomorrow for New Orleans for a week!
picture1.png

A group of 40 of us from The Well are heading down for Spring Break to help on the rebuilding of homes still left devastated from Hurricane Katrina. We have partnered on 2 prior occasions with Berean Bible church down in NOLA, but it’s been about a year and a half since we were last there. So it will be good to be back there and work alongside those folks again.

We have a real good group of students going down–it should be a fun week. Updates forthcoming!
